In the City of London below ground in the 1,000 year old vaulted crypt of St Mary-le-Bow Church is Café Below.
A family run restaurant in arguably one of the most quirky dining venues in existence. Quality, hearty homemade food is served for lunch and dinner feasts alongside a considered and unusual wine list. Flickering candles teeter precariously on the old stone arches.
Choose from cubby holes cosy enough for two, the large feasting table, or the large dining table. Or take over the whole Crypt to suit all occasions and celebrations for our private dining service.
Whether you want casual dining, a canape party or a more formal dinner, just let us know and we can accommodate you, with, of-course, the high standard of waiting staff we employ during normal service.
Our venue is suitable for dinner speeches, private viewings for artists, press launches and wine clubs as well as the usual birthday celebration, office gathering or dinner. We offer an ad hoc style of dining and are always willing to discuss options.
Did you know St Mary-le-Bow Church houses the Bow Bells that, legend has it, if you are born within the sounds of, means that you are a true cockney? Not only that but Sir Christopher Wren designed the Church and it is the London headquarters of the Archbishops of Canterbury. So you will never be stuck for dinner party conversation!
We have two rooms for hire plus our outdoor space, the Church Yard, which has covered outdoor seating for the warmer months.
