Leicester in the East Midlands is the only city in the UK with a famous car park – where in 2012 the remains of King Richard III were accidentally uncovered. With 2,000 years of history, it’s also home to sites such as the Roman Jewry wall, the King’s tomb in Leicester Cathedral and New Walk Museum. It also boasts some truly splendid modern attractions such as the National Space Centre and fabulous festivals throughout the year, so it’s popularity as a tourist destination is no surprise. Just over an hour from London, there’s also a buzzing music scene and competitive football and rugby teams, while The Lanes and Belgrave Road are also great shopping areas.
As a former holder of the title ‘Curry Capital of Britain’ Leicester has a multitude of authentic Indian and Asian options along its Golden Mile but lesser known is its wealth of vegetarian restaurants – over 60. There are also fine dining, European, South American and many more culinary options, with plenty of opportunity for hosting parties, dinners and larger gatherings – whatever the event.
