Try our Best of the ‘Burbs Christmas Venue List

We are really spoilt for choice these days as out in the ‘burbs there’s as much great grub as there is in the centre.

To the west there’s a host of amazing venues not to be missed. Starting with the recently refurbished Ealing Park Tavern, the wood-panelled Oak room for up to 30 seated (60 standing) has a warm glow to it as well as stunning bay windows – perfect for informal gastro-pub get togethers. Villa di Geggiano in Chiswick –is finally a truly great Italian on what was previously rather a blighted site. The semi-private room at the back or drawing room at the front (with direct access onto the patio) are perfect for smaller groups up to 30, or the whole site can be taken over for larger events up to 120 (seated).

Notting Hill’s Dock Kitchen is a perennial favourite with its canal-side balcony perfect for drinks on a clear evening and the daily changing seasonally themed menus making it a firm favourite with foodies. Half restaurant takeovers for up to 56 guests make it the perfect size for many company dos, as does the price – festive menus cost £55 for three courses & canapes.

Of the three Bumpkin sites, we particularly love Chelsea’s Secret Garden Room (55 seated) and the Carnival Room in Notting Hill (30 seated)– which are fun, different and really draw on their neighbourhood to give a truly local flavour. Christmas packages start from £32.50 for lunch/ £37.50 dinner.

Another Chelsea favourite is Tom’s Kitchen – a superb site with a great private room upstairs – ideal for a small work party – I’ve actually had one of mine there and it remains memorable for all the right reasons – friendly helpful staff, amazing food, warm atmosphere all in elegant dining room surrounds.

Speaking of Christmas dinners I’ve enjoyed – to the south we mustn’t forget Enoteca Turi a great local independent sourcing the most delicious Italian produce – think homemade pasta, truffles and the like – the room at the back is semi-private (for 30), while the Cellar room downstairs is the perfect cosy Christmas bolt hole for up to 18.

Hammersmith’s Hampshire Hog is also one for the little black book – with stylishly chic private rooms above its charming garden. A particular favourite is the White Room with its white décor, two walls of sash windows and long tables – perfect for any white Christmas themed events or as a blank canvas for any, more flamboyant, themes.

Out to the north we recommend the family run Frederick’s – its conservatory area (45-80 guests) and connecting garden provide a gorgeous and atmospheric setting as well as superb food. For a more alternative style try Paradise by way of Kensal Green – with Djs and dancing every Friday and Saturday night & late night drinks encouraged, this uniquely ornate shabby chic venue also has private rooms for up to 70 guests and loves hosting dinner parties.

Finally, over to the East overlooking Royal Victoria Docks, The Crystal (for up to 190) is one for a really green Christmas do! One of the world’s most sustainable events’ venues, all guests have access to the interactive exhibition with drinks and canapés in hand and larger events can dine in ‘The Street’ lobby area for a really unforgettable experience. Fine dining menus start at £42 (plus VAT & room hire) for 3 courses.
