Searcys at The Gherkin review

My first job was at 30 St Mary Axe, back nearly 20 years ago when I was a secretary who could barely type. The building that now stands on the site of the former Baltic Exchange is more impressive in every way – The Gherkin.

There are two private dining rooms at the top of this modern iconic London landmark, both run by renowned caterer Searcys.

The first, Perrier Jouet can accommodate up to 30 guests seated or 35 standing, while the Chivas can seat up to 18 guests seated and 28 standing.

Both rooms have unassuming doors which open out to reveal stunning views of London’s City at the far end of the room.

The elegance and beauty of Perrier-Jouët was created by the hands of artist Adèle Jouët and her Art Nouveau style has been epitomised throughout the design of the room.

The Chivas brand has remained one of the finest whiskeys in the world. It is this character, heritage, personality and excellence that we have exclusively brought to life in the Gherkin private dining room.

Menus, which lean towards modern European fine dining, can be either plated three course affairs or buffet style. Two choice, menus start from £46 per person + VAT for lunch or £58 for dinner (£75 + VAT for five course degustation menu/£107 + VAT including matched wines).

Buffet working lunches can include modern European, Asian and British influenced dishes, with prices starting at £32 + VAT per person for two savoury and one sweet bowl food options with chips and salad. For breakfast, English and Continental are offered at £32/£20 including soft drinks respectively + VAT.

If you’re looking for a special romantic evening, or a spectacular place to propose, there’s a bespoke couples package include a glass of Bollinger Rosé, degustation menu and accompanying wines for £105 + VAT per person.

The rooms are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner or can be hired for a day (from £490 + VAT). During the week, room hire is charged, starting at £200 for breakfast, £300 for lunch or dinner for the Chivas and £250/£380 respectively for the Perrier Jouet (all + VAT).

Saturday bookings are based on a minimum spend starting at £600+VAT. It’s worth noting that members of Searcy’s Private Club – which costs £1000/year – receive a 50% discount on all private room hire as well as access to a variety of special club events.

Searcys club lounge can also be hired for seated lunches or dinners for up to 30 guests and drinks receptions for up to 70 guests at a £3000+VAT minimum spend. The space is both spectacular and versatile, boasting incredible views of the London skyline and busy streets below. This room works well for drinks receptions, private dining and private parties. The Club Lounge is available for hire on Saturdays and Sundays only and operates as an exclusive members’ lounge on weekdays.
