The Cage – Wright Brothers Soho Oyster House review
The private dining room at Wright Brothers is known as The Cage. A strikingly different space, the raised dining area is surrounded by metal trellis ‘walls’ reminiscent of a lobster pot. Bordered by the kitchen pass and with views to the pavement level of the street, the white tiles, white hanging lamps and bare bulbs contrasts with the black walls and black metal cage, giving it the feel of a funky, New York-style, urban crab shack.
With room for standing receptions of up to 30 (18 seated), the private room is used for a range of events from oyster tastings, sashimi and sake tastings where the head chef takes guests through the process from whole fish to plate. There’s no room hire or minimum spend but the recommended minimum number for the space is 8 depending on time of day and date of event.
The Cage has its own dedicated toilets, as well as a 42 inch TV screen and separate music system to the remainder of the restaurant – including iPod docking facilities. It is often used for relaxed corporate lunches and dinners, as well as social gatherings for the vibrant local workforce. A choice of set menu options for lunch and dinner start at £39 for three courses, rising to £49 and £69 to include dishes like wagyu beef and lobster.
Wright Brothers’ famous ‘own grown’ Frenchman’s Creek and Duchy oysters also feature on the menu as well as a range of other French and Channel Island varieties. Sharing dishes of whole seabass, steak, lobster and beef rib are also available – and are extremely popular with the semi-private circular table in the main restaurant, where groups of up to 6 enjoy the red leather banquettes and ambience, while still being able to hold private conversations. It’s also worth noting that the bar, over-looking the picturesque Kingly Court, is available for exclusive use upon request and is ideal for product launches or drinks receptions with its brass bar, glass ceiling to floor windows, distressed mirrors and fisherman’s lamps.
