Just a few moments from the city’s historic centre is Hotel du Vin York, housed in a Grade II listed building and dating back to the early 19th century. Once a private home and orphanage, it now offers 44 luxurious bedrooms and suites, a bistro, bar and private dining rooms.

With space for up to 30 guests, Ruinart is the largest private room. Original features – such as an open fireplace, wooden floorboards and Georgian windows that let in plenty of natural daylight – create a definite wow factor, enhanced by an impressive mural covering one wall.

Ouse is a very similar style of room, but slightly smaller, seating up to 24 diners. Again, it enjoys natural daylight, and features a deep red wall and wine cellar mural. Or if you have a group of up to 12, the Library is the perfect intimate venue.

Anyone who’d like to make a night of it can choose from 44 timelessly styled bedrooms and stunning suites. All feature luxurious handsprung mattresses, fine Egyptian linen, deep baths, powerful drench showers, flat screen TVs and air conditioning.
