The Blue Boar

The Blue Boar at the newly rebranded Conrad Hotel (formerly InterContinental) is one of those hidden gems in the backstreets of Westminster. The area has the unmistakable whiff of power and so too does the hotel and its restaurant the Blue Boar, which are both decorated with subtle nods to its political proximity. The Blue Boar has its own entrance on Tothill Street, but can also be accessed from the hotel’s main entrance.

Located at the rear of the restaurant, the private dining room can be split into two – ten in each room – or used as one large room for 20 guests on one long table. The room has a wall of wine and a serious yet cosy and intimate feel with its dark wooden panels and exposed grey brick walls lightened by mirrored ends to the room, oversize globe lights and modern art featuring grey and gold streaks.

The private dining room often hosts think tank dinners, briefings and lunches for ministers and the like, many of whom choose to have pre drinks in a snug section of the hotel bar beforehand. But the room is also ideal for special occasion dinners and breakfast meetings and has full disabled access from the hotel entrance. The room is also ideally situated within the restaurant to allow for any necessary security to sit outside, whilst remaining unobtrusive.

There’s a minimum spend of £800 for one room, £1,600 for both for lunch or dinner, (£400/£800 breakfast) and three course set menus cost £45 and £60, although bespoke menus can also be arranged.

Emmeline’s Lounge, next to the Blue Boar restaurant, can also be used either for pre-dinner drinks before adjourning to the private room or for a standalone event. With a totally different ambience, it’s named after Emmeline Pankhurst and has a definite feminine touch.

With natural daylight streaming in through a light well, designer lime, pink and beige mismatched furniture, wire cage table bases, a large marble fireplace and striking flower displays, the room has an element of Alice in Wonderland to it. As such, it is often used for afternoon teas, wedding receptions and a myriad of other standing events with all the furniture removed.  With room for up to 80 standing, or 30-40 seated afternoon tea costs £37.50 per person, while the room has a minimum spend from £2,500 depending on time of event and how much furniture is required to be removed.

The main Blue Boar restaurant can be also be used exclusively for parties of up to 90 seated or in the inside banquette area for up to 50. A room hire is charged but depends on date and time of event.
