Overview

The Whitechapel Gallery Dining Room is now managed by Smart Hospitality with Michelin starred chef Angela Hartnett consulting on all areas of the food. Together with her head chef Emma Duggan, Angela works closely with the Whitechapel Gallery chefs to create exciting and vibrant dishes. She is renowned for her big flavours and love of seasonality as influenced by her Italian heritage.

There is a daily changing menu with the emphasis on homely cooking using the very best British ingredients. With small dishes priced between £5-8 and ideal for sharing, along with main courses priced between £10-15, the Whitechapel Gallery Dining Room offers great flexibility to guests of the restaurant; whether it be for a quick bite or a leisurely lunch.

Starters include dishes such as new season asparagus with fried hen’s egg and shaved Parmesan; toasted sourdough with brown and white crab meat, whilst mains feature sea bream, pequillo peppers and almonds, and cote de boeuf with balsamic shallots. Desserts range from a warm prune and armagnac tart, to exotic fruit salad with candied black olives and mint. There is a concise but considered wine list with many options available by the glass.

The Library Dining Room is directly opposite the main Dining Room seats up to 14 guests, and features a social sculpture by artist Christian Botanski. A set three course menu for £28 is offered, which includes bread, olives and side dishes, or bespoke tasting menus created by Angela and her team, six courses for £35, or seven courses for £42.

Guests can benefit from our Wine, Dine and be Inspired offer, and enjoy lunch or dinner and a private tour of the international exhibitions of modern and contemporary art on display at the gallery. Prices start from £50 per person.

For larger parties, the beautiful gallery spaces are available for hire, catered in house by Smart Hospitality.
