After a corporate drinks event on board the Leven, we were keen to try it for a more intimate occasion so my wife and I planned a dinner for 14 early in the New Year. Lorna Cartwright, the chef/proprietor, was prompt and helpful during the planning stages, with seasonal menus and various possible formats. On the night, the boat was very welcoming as we shed our coats and admired the elegant table settings in the cosy surroundings. From the champagne and first canapé to the cognac and last petit-four everything was just right, proceeding at a well-judged pace. The centrepiece of roast beef was absolutely delicious – Lorna’s choice of cut and cooking. The two serving staff were discreet, efficient and attentive to our needs. How it all emerged from the galley up for’wd is a wonder.
