Insider View
In the middle of the government’s department buildings in Westminster is a quiet unspoilt Georgian backstreet littered with blue plaques – and this is where you’ll find One Queen Anne’s Gate. This is a secluded location just minutes from St James’ Park tube and is ideal for discrete meetings as it’s out of sight of any of the main roads or government offices. The building is now the home of Water UK and other offices, but they have conference and private dinner facilities catered for by the venue’s in-house chef.
On the ground floor, the Casteler Room has a light décor with windows down one length and cream background, flower patterned curtains giving it an airy feel. Seating up to 50, it also has a screen and projector and an ipod docking system for music, although live music is not allowed in the building.
The room has classic conference furniture – with chairs and round tables with beige velvet tablecloths. Full dinners or lunches can be arranged for the room, although ‘working lunches’ are also an option.
Downstairs there are a further two rooms, The Queen Anne’s room and the Sir Edward Grey Room – named after the last private owner of the building. Although both can be hired separately they also combine well to provide a conference/ meeting room and breakout area – with daily delegate rates from £54.
Despite being in the basement, both rooms also have natural daylight with The Queen Anne’s room being bigger and lighter accommodating 26 for a meeting (45 theatre style). It is comfortable and smart but not overly lavish and comes complete with air conditioning, projector screen, adjustable lighting. Bare tables are used for meetings which can be clothed for dinners.
The Sir Edward Grey room is more homely than the other two, being reminiscent of a Georgian dining room with a mahogany veneer table and velvet ribbed, wine-coloured high backed chairs and period sideboard as its central features. Ideal for a private dinner or lunch, it is often used by societies or for private corporate dinners and seats up to ten, although for this number a pre-dinner reception can also be held in the room.
There are six further meeting rooms with capacities ranging from 4 to 30 which can be used as stand alone function spaces or linked in with the other facilities.
