Overview
Chez Bruce was set up in 1995 by Bruce Poole and his business partner Nigel Plats-Martin. Overlooking the beautiful greenery of Wandsworth Common the restaurant has become one of London’s best loved Michelin starred restaurants.
“From the very outset, it was my intention to serve the very best food but in a relaxed, informal yet thoroughly professionally run environment” says Bruce Poole, Chef and Proprietor. “My food is most definitely based upon classical and regional French cooking. You will find old fashioned braises and daubes alongside delicious offal preparations and lighter, simply grilled fish and meat alternatives on the menu. I favour simply plated but immaculately prepared desserts too”
“We are proud of our first floor private dining room which was beautifully refurbished in 2006 to a design by Claire Nelson and with original artwork by Lou Gibbs, Albert Irvin and Philip Jones and featuring hand made furniture by Matthew Burt.”
This room is available for hire for wedding receptions, christenings, birthday and anniversary celebrations, etc and can accommodate between 8 and 16 guests.
“Over the years we have been lucky enough to garner many prestigious awards, but it has never been out inclination to rest on our laurels. In kitchen, wine and dining room departments, we simply strive to improve – it is the only way forward.”
Insider View
Anybody who has had the fortune of visiting Wandsworth Common on a balmy spring evening will know just how enchanting the area can be. The private dining room at Chez Bruce utilises this to superb effect by looking out over the green space, windows open and flowers blooming on the balcony. In a word, heavenly.
The decor packs a punch with fuchsia pink walls and original paintings, most notably including works by the English abstract painter Albert Irvin. The furniture is hand-made by Matthew Burt and the room is perfectly designed by Claire Nelson. Here at Chez Bruce, the feel is of quality and simplicity; a basic dining room layout that showcases craft.
The central table sits a minimum of 8 people and a maximum of 16; you’ll totally own the room and indeed, the whole first floor. The bar is just outside of the private dining room catering for your every thirst. Take the time with your pre-meal drink to soak up those beautiful views outside the window. Enjoy the greenery, the rustle of the trees and the splashes of colour of the delicate balcony plants. Moreover, appreciate the tranquility so rarely available in London.
This modern European/French venue in Wandsworth is delightful; the very essence of unfussy, quality based appeal. While away many an hour savouring every last drop of the location and lose yourself to the charm of Chez Bruce.
