Insider View
Bumpkin’s website captures its own essence perfectly and this restaurant really is ‘for city folk who like a little country living’.
The private dining room of the South Kensington branch of Bumpkin is on the first floor overlooking Old Brompton Road. It seats 36 for dinner or 45 for canapés. The menu is a celebration of all things British and focuses on home-produced ingredients. Even winning the award of the Silver catering mark from the Soil Association for its Food for Life scheme, the authentic British fare is fresh, organic and made completely from scratch. We don’t need to tell you how rare such a dedicated vision to high quality, home grown food is.
Now to the look and feel of the place. As one can imagine, this is a snapshot of the country in the city and much of the private dining room could be straight from a farm house kitchen. The décor is charming and highly attractive. The wooden floor is beautiful and the tables are made from solid wood, a real pleasure to dine on. The chairs have a leather seat and fabulous, patterned fabric backs. Items are dotted around in keeping with the rustic theme, from watering cans to Lavender. The cupboard in the corner is a real eye-catcher; a piece of true craftsmanship aged and adored, with old faded labels and masses of character.
Everything here at Bumpkin is well thought through and the colour scheme and attention to detail exemplifies that. From mushroom walls to a shimmering floral print wallpaper, mirrors and fresh flowers to the latest mod cons such as air conditioning and a large plasma TV mounted on the wall, it’s all there to make your experience enjoyable. A great option particularly for a family do, this home from home really is a slice of rural heaven right amidst the bustle of South Kensington.
