Overview
Bistrot Bruno Loubet is a modern French bistrot in the heart of Clerkenwell, London.
Bruno Loubet brought his distinctive style of modern bistrot food back to London after 8 years down under running some of Australia’s best restaurants.
Bistrot Bruno Loubet was named ‘3rd Best Restaurant in the UK’ at the National Restaurant Awards in 2010. "Welcome back, Bruno, we needed you.” - AA Gill, Sunday Times.
Private dining and parties at Bistrot Bruno Loubet not only have Bruno’s award winning food but also enjoy an enviable location within the fashionable Zetter Hotel.
Situated in the heart of London’s historic Clerkenwell, sandwiched between the City and the West End it is also just a short hop from Kings Cross St Pancras.
There is the choice of two stylish and quirky private rooms which can seat from 8 – 50 guests comfortably for private dining and a little more for standing receptions.
The larger New River Room is ideal for a party, able to accommodate live music as well as DJ’s.
Bistrot Bruno Loubet offers a variety of menu options from canapés and supper bowls to a full a la carte menu of his distinctive style of modern bistro food.
Exclusive hire of the main restaurant is only possible on certain days of the week, upon application and can hold up to 100 guests.
“I found it delightful. For London it's exceptional.” - Jasper Gerard, The Telegraph.
Insider View
It’s gutsy, it’s expressive, it’s inventive, and above all - it’s refreshing. It is, in fact, everything a bistro with private dining should be.
The Zetter should be proud of its buzzing Bistro Loubet. On arrival you are greeted warmly by a member of staff, and immediately find yourself immersed in the busy and fashionable main restaurant. A stylish bar awaits you, spanning across much of the restaurant, perfect for pre-dinner drinks. Directly behind the bar is the atrium – filled with beautiful floral armchairs on a patterned brown carpet - it oozes modernity. Sitting comfortably in the atrium, one looks straight up and the many levels of The Zetter stare back down at you. There’s a wall dedicated to modern art produced by local artists, which changes monthly. An ideal spot to relax and enjoy a drink; the atrium itself is available for private hire.
Situated a floor below the main restaurant are Bistro Bruno Loubet’s two private dining rooms; The New River Room and The Board Room. Away from the lively hum of busy restaurant life, the private diner can be sure of having one’s own space in either private room.
The Board Room lends itself to its name. Seating 8 to 10 people on cream leather tulip chairs, around a large rosewood round table, this private room is perfect for small meetings. The Board Room’s contemporary wallpaper of grey toned books has a magnetic field behind it, ideal for pinning up spreadsheets, notes or photographs. The words ‘modern’ and ‘inventive’ yet again come to mind. Whilst The Board Room suggests business, its intimate size is equally useful for a private dining experience amongst friends or colleagues.
The New River Room is spacious, adaptable and comfortable. When entering the room, directly on your left is a private bar, exclusively for the private diners in The New River Room. There is space for 80 guests at a stand up canapé or drinks event, or 50 cabaret tables. Staff are more than happy to help with entertainment plans – perhaps a band or DJ set. Equipped with a sound system perfect for I-pods and CDs and a projector and screen, social or business parties alike would be more than comfortable. Squishy leather sofas with colourful cushions border The New River Room, but it is up to you how you fill the rest of the room – it really is that adaptable.
Bistro Bruno Loubet say that ‘they know their food and wine’. Being the ‘3rd best restaurant in the UK’ certainly helps. Chef Bruno Loubet is passionate and inventive with food – as are the staff concerned with the private diner’s experience
For a private meeting after work with dinner, or a full day meeting with lunch, or a social drinks do... or dinner and dancing, as the French would say - ‘C’est Parfait!’
Bruno Loubet
Which was the first restaurant you worked in?
A restaurant on the seaside near Bordeaux called the Le Dauphin D’or. It was a terrible restaurant and I learnt how not to do a lot of things!
What was the last London restaurant you went to, apart from your own?
Koffman’s. I went for a quick lunch with my wife and two friends and had the set lunch menu which has to be the best value in London.
Which London restaurant is your favourite and why?
Terroirs. It is a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere and fantastic wine list. It reminds me of my home in France.
What or who has been the biggest influence on the way you cook and why?
My family. I was aware from a young age that food was the most important thing to my family. People who had survived the war really appreciated food and did not waste a thing. It was very important for them to teach us to appreciate what we had and I realize now that we ate very well.
What is your personal signature dish?
Snails Mauricette. A dish that was named after my mother who used to make a similar dish with snails stuffed with Toulouse sausage in a rich tomato sauce.
Which other chef(s) do you most admire?
Chef’s over 50 years old who still run their restaurant. It’s a tough job – very hard on the knees! You have to be really passionate to maintain the enthusiasm.
What’s the best part of your job?
When I see people enjoying themselves in the bistrot and enjoying my food it's all worth while.
And the worst?
The long hours and not seeing enough of my family.
What would your last meal be?
Roast chicken with Pomme Salardaise and sautéed ceps. It would have to be a chicken I had raised myself with mushrooms I have picked and potatoes I have grown.
