Insider View

Just moments from the big train terminus at Euston sits The Ambassadors hotel and its accompanying restaurant Number 12.

Adding some much needed sparkle to the area, head chef Charles Holtz, formerly from the Firmdale hotel group, has seen the restaurant nominated for the London Restaurant Awards’ best Italian, while Michelin have also recognised his achievements, listing the restaurant as ‘recommended’ for the last two years.

The Number 12 restaurant itself is attractive and colourful with space at the front for receptions or after dinner dancing, while the dining room, which seats up to 80 can also be divided into two separate sections for smaller functions. The bar area has deep purple banquettes with purple oversize lamps hanging from the ceiling, while the main room uses oranges, reds and browns to create a relaxed atmosphere, so often lacking in hotel restaurants.

And being part of a hotel does have several benefits. Parties of up to 30 can have the full a la carte, although for some bookings it’s necessary to pre-order depending on the event. It’s also great for a cheeky afternoon tea being close to the British Museum, British library and Bloomsbury and Shaw theatres. At £19.50 it rivals any of the big London hotels with a wide selection of scones, sandwiches, cupcakes, biscuits, biscotti and unlimited tea and coffee.

But this is only a small part of what the hotel has to offer. There are seven private rooms within the Ambassadors which range from 20 to 180 capacity. All are fully equipped with full in-house AV systems including microphones, PA systems and video conferencing facilities and often used for conferencing and private dinners.

But the venue has also just got its wedding license. The ceremony and reception can be held in two of its larger rooms, The Prosper Suite and the Enterprise Suite. The layout of glass panelled doors, wood panelled walls and different lighting options allows for all tastes and styles of wedding and the Enterprise suite even has its own separate entrance from the rest of the hotel.

Being a modern purpose built conferencing facility the rooms can also be partitioned off for smaller events or break out sessions. Daytime conferencing facilities of bare tables and orthopedically designed chairs can be dressed for evening events with white linen and chair covers.
